Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370’s Disappearance: A Contemporary Mysterium

Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370’s Disappearance: A Contemporary Mysterium

The disappearance of MH370 remains one of the most puzzling aviation mysteries of our time. A Boeing 777 carrying 239 people left Kuala Lumpur for Beijing on the night of March 8, 2014. But the routine wasn’t meant to last. Grief and questions followed the plane as it disappeared into thin air as the hours passed.

An apocryphal departure

At 00:41 local time precisely, MH370 took off from Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The journey seemed ordinary, the sky black. “Good night, Malaysia three seven zero,” came the brief, cold signature at 1:19 a.m. Some time later, calm. The plane disappeared from civilian radar and its transponder failed.

This is not the end of the story, however. Military radar tracked the plane as it turned west, back over the Malaysian peninsula and toward the Andaman Sea. This too lost the plane around 2:22 a.m. After that, there was a void; MH370 was missing.

No other searches of this type

The most expensive and complex search in the history of aviation turned out to be the search for MH370. After satellite data became available, the hunt focused heavily on the vast and dangerous waters of the Indian Ocean, after initially focusing on the South China Sea. British satellite communications company Inmarsat released information showing the plane continued south for hours after losing contact.

More than 120,000 square kilometers of seabed have been eroded. There was no hint. Until, in a strange turn of events, trash started washing up on the western islands of the Indian Ocean. The worst concerns were confirmed in July 2015 when a flaperon, part of a wing, was discovered on Reunion Island. MH370 had a difficult end.

There are several theories.

Without clear answers, speculation took flight. Several possibilities stand out among the many others:

  1. Pilot suicide: Some believe that Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah intentionally brought down the plane. The complex flight movements observed, which suggest human control, support this dark theory.
  2. Diversion: A second view is that the hijackers took over and directed the plane to a secret location. This seems unlikely, however, given the enormity of such an operation and the lack of reliable evidence.
  3. Mechanical disaster: A sudden, catastrophic failure or fire destroying communications systems and leaving the plane on autopilot until fuel runs out remains a reasonable theory.
  4. Cyber-hacking: Some believe that in the digital age, a cyberattack would have taken control of the plane’s controls remotely. As interesting as it is, this is still very hypothetical and has no real proof.

Unceasing search for truth

A private company called Ocean Infinity launched new research in 2018 using cutting-edge underwater drones. Despite this, their heroic efforts produced no fruit. Nevertheless, the search for MH370 continues because people still want answers and a conclusion.

A change left behind

Aviation security procedures have been heavily impacted by the mystery surrounding MH370. Commercial planes are now required to regularly report their location thanks to stricter tracking systems put in place after the accident. Such a terrifying mystery should not happen again, according to these steps.

Summary

The disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 is a testament to contemporary tragedy and an unwavering human spirit. This reflects the spirit of our group and our need to find solutions in the face of uncertainty. We remain optimistic that the truth will eventually surface, relieving the suffering of those left behind and solving one of aviation’s greatest mysteries, as technology develops and research continues.
