71-Year-Old Grandma Kicked Off Flight, Excuse Leaves People Mad

71-Year-Old Grandma Kicked Off Flight, Excuse Leaves People Mad

When a 71-year-old grandmother asked a flight attendant a simple question, her request set off an unexpected chain reaction. Before she knew it, she was kicked off the flight in front of her grandchildren. The airline has since released an explanation, but it has only made people mad. It’s terrible.

Ellen Flemming, 71, is a frequent traveler who has flown several times without problems. So, she didn’t expect the response she received from Air Canada staff during the flight to New Brunswick from Toronto Pearson International Airport after asking the flight attendant for a simple favor .

Ellen was traveling with her husband and two grandchildren when she asked the cabin crew for a simple service. It certainly wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. So, she never thought in a million years that this question would start a chain reaction that would eventually see the plane and her life completely change. To her surprise and horror, she was thrown from the flight and claims to have been injured.

Ellen told Inside Edition the incident started after she noticed wet trash in the seat pocket in front of her. She called the flight attendant and asked if he could remove it. Instead of helping, he immediately became angry and refused to do so. “He pulled himself up to his full height and said, ‘I’m a flight attendant and I don’t deal with trash,'” Ellen recalls.

The answer shocked her, but she remained calm, remaining seated and not making a scene. When she saw the food cart passing by, she tried to throw away the trash herself, but things quickly got out of hand. The flight attendant allegedly ripped her arm off, causing the trash to fly all over Ellen and her husband before hitting the ground, where she swept it away with her foot.

Ellen was surprised by the response and the unwarranted reaction, but she thought the situation was over. Unfortunately, things only got worse when, moments later, she heard the pilot say that the plane had to turn around and would be returning to British Columbia due to an incident.

Ellen had no idea at the time that the “incident” came from her. But when the plane landed, police escorted her off the flight and told her she would no longer be allowed to travel with Air Canada. She didn’t understand why. Air Canada’s reason didn’t make things much clearer for her either.

According to People, the airline alleged in a letter that Ellen “displayed aggressive behavior toward a crew member; threw trash on food cart; kicked a crew member when asked to wait until the crew member could come back and pick up trash while he served food. But Ellen says that’s far from the truth, and other passengers have come forward in her defense, Fox News reported.

One of those travelers is Helen Hollett, who says she sat across from Ellen and her family throughout the flight. According to Helen, she did not see the 71-year-old woman acting aggressively at all. Instead, she says it was the flight attendant who was “angry” and “yelling” during the incident, Global News reported. “The problem was, most of the people on that plane didn’t even know what was going on,” Helen said. Moreover, the police seem to share the same opinion and see no reason to prosecute the grandmother, claiming that no criminal offense was committed.

Let’s be clear. Passengers should respect the crew, but travelers should also show respect in return. And this woman did nothing wrong. Instead, it all started because someone chose to have the “that’s not my job” mindset. Would it have hurt this flight attendant to just take the trash and make this woman’s trip better? Also, if it’s not their job to take care of the trash, why do they come and collect it after handing out drinks on every flight I’ve been on?

If that flight attendant thinks it’s undignified to throw away a passenger’s trash, he needs another job. However, it doesn’t seem like it would do an employee that much good. If you are able to do something that makes a customer’s experience more pleasant, you should consider it your job, no matter how simple it may be. All of this could have been avoided if an employee had demonstrated this considerate mentality rather than a legitimate superiority complex. Unfortunately, an elderly woman paid the price for her arrogance.
