One day, upon arriving home, a nanny immediately felt something was wrong. She quickly grabbed the child she was caring for and ran towards him. It was only when the child’s father watched the chilling footage from CCTV cameras that they fully understood what had happened.
Jonathan Le and his family live in Irvine, California. He and his wife have a three-year-old son, but due to their busy lives, they can’t always be there 24/7. To ensure their child is well taken care of, the couple decided to hire a nanny. They found the ideal candidate in Jenna Lee Baker. Little did they know how important Baker would become in their lives.
One day in the summer of 2017, Baker and the three-year-old were out running errands. After completing their tasks, the two men returned home, unaware of the terrifying events that awaited them. When Baker opened the door, she felt in her gut that something was wrong. Before she could act, the little boy had already entered the house. Instinctively sensing danger, Baker urged the child to return. Luckily he did, because Baker soon heard footsteps on the stairs.
Reacting quickly, Baker rushed into the house, picked up the child and ran straight to a neighbor’s house for help. “I turned around and grabbed him,” Baker recalled, reenacting the scene for Inside Edition in August 2017. Barefoot and panicked, she ran down the aisle, clutching the boy tightly.
Later, when the child’s father viewed the CCTV footage, the extent of the danger they had narrowly avoided became clear. The recording showed a burglar breaking into the family’s home while Baker and the child were away. The intruder entered the kitchen, found Baker’s purse and emptied its contents onto the counter, meticulously searching for valuables.
But the burglar didn’t stop there. He roamed the rest of the house, even going into the children’s bedrooms looking for things to steal. “That’s my wife’s purse in his hand,” Le said while viewing the footage. “To see him come into my kids’ room, just walk in, it’s the scariest thing for me.”
When Baker arrived home, the burglar seemed to realize his time was up. The footage showed him fleeing the house moments after the nanny and child escaped. Local police later confirmed they were searching for a suspect described as an African-American man, aged 18 to 25, carrying a polka dot backpack and weighing approximately 170 pounds.
According to Le, the burglar appeared to be communicating with someone on the phone throughout the break-in. “He was on his cell phone all the time,” Le said. ABC Eyewitness News. From entering the yard to leaving the house, the suspect was likely coordinating with an accomplice.
Initially, the intruder tried to enter through a window. When that failed, he kicked in a glass door. Surprisingly, the whole incident happened in broad daylight. “The burglar destroyed my whole sense of security,” Le admitted. “I feel very, very violated.”
Fortunately, Jenna Lee Baker’s quick actions avoided what could have been a much worse situation. The Le family now considers her their “Super Nanny”. “What she did for my son and what she does every day is incredible. I’m so grateful she’s in our lives,” Le shared with Inside edition.
However, Baker humbly insists that she was simply doing her job. “I don’t consider myself a hero,” she said. “I love him. When his parents are away, they trust me to keep him safe.
